I live in a Victorian Grade II listed building. The house had been painted in September this year, and when I was closing the front bedroom window the upper hinge pin sheared off so the window wouldn’t close. I explained all this to Glazing Masters in an email and John Morgan came to look at the window on that Friday. I received a detailed quote the following day (which was very reasonable), which I accepted immediately. John phoned the following Tuesday saying he had the hinge, and could he visit the next day at 10:00. He told me the possible problem could be getting the screws out, and I asked if applying paint stripper would assist and John said YES. I went to Wickes that evening and bought an aerosol of Nitromors stripper. I got up early the next morning and liberally applied paint stripper which I wire brushed off after 20 minutes. 4 of the screws were slotted so had probably been in place for 150 years. By removing 3 screws from the lower hinge John was able to lift the window into the bedroom so he had much better access to all the broken hinge screws which he carefully removed them all. He then re-hung the window with a new hinge and it now opens and closes properly.
